What to bring on Icewalks

What you’ll need to bring:

  • sunglasses and sunscreen
  • warm clothes* (no shorts please, there is always a cold breeze up there)
  • water bottle and water
  • food for longer trips
  • we suggest a camera and binoculars (as well as chocolate for the guide)

*The guides usually wear a wool shirt, wind stopper layer, or sweater. They always bring a  rain jacket. Hiking pants are best, although jeans will do.

What we can provide (free of charge):

  • boots, although you may be more comfortable in your own hiking shoes or boots (a good lug sole is essential)
  • crampons (spikes for your boots) These are smaller, safer versions of the equipment used by mountaineers when climbing glaciated peaks.
  • ( gloves, for protection against sharp or slippery ice )
  • ( hat – even sunny days can be quite cold )
  • ( rain jacket and pants for overcast or rainy days )
  • NB: COVID-19 protocols are in effect: Any items that have been used by clients will be removed from service for 72 hours, to reduce risk of transmission.
