Icewalk in the Afternoon

Icewalks operate May 27 - October 8, 2017

A great afternoon on the Athabasca Glacier. Three hours allows us to take you up the lower two kilometres of the glacier. Meeting in the parking lot nearest the glacier about twenty minutes before the trip begins, we will consult with each participant about necessary equipment and your level of fitness. Once the group is properly equipped, we head up a short but steep trail to the edge of the ice. Throughout the trip, short stops allow us to introduce our groups to the concepts of active glaciation and the features of a glacially carved landscape. There are many examples of moraines, millwells and small crevasses. The surrounding peaks are amongst the most stunning in the Canadian Rockies.

Distance: approximately 5 km round trip.
Elevation gain: About 200m
The steepest section is  right at the beginning, so if you are unsure about your fitness, you will know right away.

These walks begin daily at 1:45 in the afternoon. A 1:30 arrival is recommended.

This walk is identical to the Ice Cubed walk.

Adults: $105.00 CDN, plus 5% GST.
Children: 7-16 years $60.00, plus 5% GST.
