Icewalks operate May 26 - October 7, 2018

Our classic, and most popular trip. Three hours allows us to take you up the lower two kilometres of the Athabasca Glacier. Meeting in the parking lot nearest the glacier about a half hour before the trip begins, we will consult with each participant about necessary equipment and your level of fitness. Once the group is properly equipped, we head up a short but steep trail to the edge of the glacier. Throughout the trip, short stops allow us to introduce our groups to the concepts of active glaciation and features of a glacially carved landscape. There are many examples of moraines, millwells and small crevasses. The surrounding peaks are amongst the most stunning in the Canadian Rockies. (see photos)
Distance: approximately 5 km round trip.
Elevation gain: About 200m
The steepest section is  right at the beginning, so if you are unsure about your fitness, you will know right away.

(Groups usually consist of 12-15 people.)

This walk is identical to the Icewalk in the Afternoon.
